Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa, Bophut Beach
This is a very comfortable hotel, if a bit over priced. The setting is beautiful in lovely gardens. The beach is very small but has nice sunbeds, however when a wedding was taking place the rest of the residents were squashed onto a miniscule bit of beach and the lounge bar was out of bounds as part of the reception was being held there, with no compensation to the other guests. The staff were delightful and VERY helpful when my husband was ill and the restaurant manager, Diego, produced simple bland meals for him which had been requested by the hospital.

Very efficient, will use again

Zazen is an experience, a concept of beauty and relaxation. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon and felt treated like a king and a queen by the staff. The surrounding is fantastic, the restaurant looks lovely and the food created by chef Wally is excellent; you really have to trie. We we re pleasently surprised to see all the effort that was made to make our room special for our honeymoon. Two beautifull swanns surrounded by a heart made out of orchids. The rooms are wonderfully decorated, everything is reconsidered carefully. Just go there!!!

The hotel is very nice ,the beachfront villas are at only 2 steps from the sea ,with great views and very reasonnable price .The room is well furnished .The restaurant is good ,the western menu is way better than the thai menu which is only ok ,but the restaurant is pricey ,I think there is better restaurant at this price at bophut or chaweng beach . The staff is very helpful. I would recommended this hotel which is really a good value althought the restaurant is not as better as what the other reviews said .We were a bit desapointed by the beach too, the sand is a kind of yellow color and not really white .So the water isn t very clear .The chaweng beach is better ,but there is much more hotel and people too ,whereas the bophut beach is more peacefull L hotel est un excellent rapport qualité prix ,les bungalows beachfront sont à 2 pas de la mer ,avec une vue superbe ,pour un prix très raisonnable !De plus les chambres sont vraiment confortables et bien équipées ( écrna plasma ,ipod ,lit et mobilier de bonne qualité ) Le staff est sympa et parle bien anglais .

Very helpfull

Hotel very plush and welcoming. We chose the garden standard room which although large enougth was quite dark due to the enclosed nature of the garden bungalows. The resort itself is very exquisitely decorated the gardens beautiful but the one area of fault the is no real lounge area where you can sit and drink and with there being no real sitting area in front of our room this was a minus point. The beach and swimming we found poor we preffered meanem.Restaurant and food very good but drinks overpriced.

Wonderful little boutique hotel, where a lot of love was put into detail. A bit tricky with small children (ours were 3 yrs and 1,5 yrs) because there is a lot of water to potentially fall into, but the very friendly staff always kept an eye on them, so there was no problem at all. Great restaurant. Excellent food for very reasonable prices. Great fresh fruit juices and smoothies and wonderful breakfast buffet. We would love to come back!

Very helpful and no problems whatsoever.

Beautiful pool area and restaurant. Good breakfast. The most comfortable sun beds that I have ever used and the staff were also very nice as were the many nice touches such as the tropical fish in the bathroom. The restaurant was a mixed bag as we had one great meal and one bad one. The Thai food was very bland and expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. There are a couple of small places a few minutes down the beach which did very nice Thai food at about a fifth of the price of Zazen. The bar prices were also expensive. The biggest disappointment were the prices of the massage treatments as they were totally excessive, we used a place further down the beach with a blue roof where we got excellent service at a fraction of the cost at Zazen. Another irritation is that everything you buy including trips etc gets 17% added for service and tax. We stayed in several nice hotels during our trip to Thailand and this was the only place that did this. As for the room it was pretty small and basic, the concrete floor gave it a very down market feel despite the nice artistic touches. A very nice place to stay but after a few days the constant irritating musak that gets played constantly all day was getting on my nerves. The 500 bht taxi fare to the airport just round the corner was also excessive as it only cost 300 bht to get here from the other side of the island. Overall a nice place to stay for a few days but be prepared to pay over the average for everything.

No problems.

we stayed 12 days in beach bungalow. Small but very nice. Got a very big baby cot( room for 3 babies. Everything was wonderful. Has been in Chaweng Cabana before. This was 100 times better. Stylish! The beach is not so good, lots of gelly fish. We got used to it! Peace and quiet and still only 15 minutes away from chaweng. A bit irritating with the very friendly waitresses, that always where picking on our 20 moths old baby. She stopped eating. Just tell them in a nice way! We will come back!

Very good!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Zazens. The people are very friendly and the resort is nice. It did feel a bit busy at times, particularly if you want to get a sunbed by the pool, I think we managed this once in six days. there were more beds by the sea which was just as nice. I had chosen this hotel in a bid to avoid towels at dawn scenario but was disappointed. The food was generally good but disappointing on occasions. Prices in the resort are quite high in comparison to elsewhere, in particular the spa (if you can really call it that). Try the Tamarind Springs for a real Thai Spa experience or one of the many places along the beach, much more reasonable and just as good! Overall a good resort.

No problems. I wasn t too keen on this resorts policy of taking full payment on arrival with no refund.

What a gorgeous property! Pictures on the web are real. A lovely, small hotel with a great, warm feel. We stayed with our two children and other than clouds and wind had a great time. We did not get to experience the beach as the winds would not allow, but the spa and breakfast made up for it. An amazing morning breakfast. Try the banana muffins.

Simply put, impressive!! We had a problem that could have been real ugly, buy Sawadee handled it with class. There was a mistake in our booking and Sawadee had quoted us the price of an ajoining pair of rooms as one room. We confirmed prior to arriving with Sawadee and they had supported that it would be two rooms connecting at one room price. After we arrived and had stayed at the hotel the Zazen shared that it was a per room price and showed us their written policy. We gasped at the prospect of having to pay twice what we had been quoted from Sawadee. The hotel staff and I called Sawadee and sure enough they were good to their word. I just had to read off the email as they had quoted and they covered their share of the additional costs and admitted their error. What a class move by Sawadee. We will use them again and share this story with everyone we meet that plans to travel to Thailand. Thanks Sawadee!!

Zazen is a beautiful resort and had a balinese theme. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and all we can say is compliments to the chef. The staff were courteous and friendly and all request were promptly taken care of. There is defintely a personal touch in the service they provide. We stayed at the garden standard room. We didn t particularly like the the little pebbles in the bathroom and the bed was too soft. Gave us backaches every morning. If the beach is what you are looking for, then Zazen s beach is not that great. In fact, the whole Bophut beach area is not that great but it is quiet. If you are looking for a good beach with lots of activities, then you d be better off in a resort along Chaweng beach. If you are looking for a quiet, nice relaxing beautiful resort, then Zazen is one resort that you should consider.

The booking process was simple and worked well. We didn t encounter any problems.

We can really recommend staying at Zazen. Due to the small number of rooms available it has an intimate atmosphere. The food was great (we ate every night more than we should have), the surroundings are beautifull and the Spa wonderfully relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. Especially in regard to our 1 year old the staff was very nice. The cook was always willing to put an adjusted meal on the table for her.

booking went smoothly

Everything was lovely about zazen resort, the beach frount bungalows were great as we had family stay next door and behind us and also friends behind us also so it was great been close to everyone. The only disapointment was that we had to pay airport transport fees we spent 2 weeks there and alot of money i think in future they should make this a complimentry service.

Fantastic no problems at all.

Pure Paradise! We couldnt possibly have booked a better venue for our wedding day. 18 guests and everyone of them said how beautiful and amazing the day was - it truly was the best wedding you could ever wish for! As for the accomodation, the staff, the service, the surroundings - 100% fantastic. We will certainly be returning. Thamk you so much to all the staff at Zazen for such a fantastic holiday and for making us, our 2 year old child, and our family so welcome. THANK YOU x

Excellent - would definately recommend and use in the future

We absolutely loved our time at Zazen. It was a haven of peace and tranquility. The food was superb (it s always good to have a chef who is passionate about food), the staff very friendly and the management excellent. Some people have commented about slow service but for the complete experience we re more interested in the ambiance and the nature of the staff with whom we loved to chat. Certain things were rather expensive, and we were disappointed not to have unlimited, free filtered water. If you want to do Thailand then Zazen probably isn t the best place to stay but if you re looking to pamper yourself, and have an uplifting experience, then this is for you. We would definitely go there again and we really hope we can return one day.

Excellent

Absolutely beautiful resort - small in size and offering better personal attention than some of the larger resorts near by. Lovely rooms, friendly staff and fantastic restuarant and bar area overlooking the sea. We will definitely be back and I would recommend this place without hesitation to anyone.

Perfect - no problems, quick & efficient.

Very nice place, well decorated. Cosy atmosphere. I would only caution people about the fact that it is a tiny hotel: no big garden or facilities. Therefore I do not think it is appropriate for people having children. My only other comment is that the service at the restaurant although very nice is quite slow. I am sure it can be improved. Overall, these are minor drawbacks, we visited quite a number of other hotels in Samui and still think that Zazen was one of the nicest!

Excellent. No problem at all

We had a very nice stay at Zazen. We were in the Deluxe Garden Rooms which are close to the pool and beach. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and large. The bathrooms are kind of outside but also nicely done. I m a vegetarian and there were a few items on the menu, but I found the kitchen willing to prepare special requests. The massage experience is very nicely done and they have outdoor pavillions where the massages are done. However if you don t care about the ambiance of the experience you can get a similiar massage from the lady at the massage booth on the beach for about 1/3 the price. All in all we were very pleased with our stay. The staff was friendly and courtesous. I would reccomend that you ask for airport pickup just to elimante the bsrgaining hassle with the tzxi drivers. We would definitely stay there again.

The booking service was efficient and delivered as promised.

We stayed in the beachfront bungalow and it was very nice and cozy. It s definitely worth it. The bed was the best mattress I ever slept on! I wish I could have taken it home. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. The hotel is a little bit of a distance from Chaweng Beach if you want to stay where the action is. If you re looking to relax and get away from the noise, this is a perfect boutique hotel to stay to unwind. I really hope to go back there again. It truly was a little slice of paradise.

I was a little hesitant about booking an international hotel online but it was really easy. The reservation representative was helpful in answering any and all questions I had and even helped to arrange airport transfer to the hotel.

A truely unforgettable experience! The pictures on the website don t do it justice, and the staff is unbelievably friendly. This place is pretty small now, with only 20 or so bungalows, but it looks like they re developing the rest of the grounds quickly. The restaurant is one of the best that we tried on the island (compared to poppies, prego, nora, etc). I would hesitate to post my recommendation in case too many people swamped the resort and ruined its atmosphere, but I realize that I can t return there soon enough, so others should benefit from our advice. BOOK THIS PLACE NOW!!!

great service, no problems at resort or with payment

Very stylish resort. Standard rooms are dark and narrow. The up-price rooms very spacious. Mini-bar is over-priced (leads to bring your own booze). Service (in the restaurant)needs improvement. Restaurant is too expensive but with the very nice setting and the calm athmosphere in bophut an alternative to the crowded places in Chaweng. Transfer to airport with 250 baht pp is outrageous (Take a songserm on the main road). DVD is not really a must but usefull to have at least music. We would go again.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very good and did everything to serve us well.We stayed for two nights in a cheaper bungalow in the rear of the grounds. The only complaint was the bathroom and shower. It was one big room so you ended up with water all over. I would recommened the beachfront bungalows.

Great service ! Booked our first two nights and had no problems!

The Zazen Bungalows was a very nice place to stay and I highly recommend it. However, I did have one complaint. All the rooms had dvd players. I had a few dvds with me and wished to watch one in the evening. The dvd player in my room would not function for one reason or another and I went to the front desk to see whether or not the malfunctioning player could be switched with one from another room. I was told that all the other rooms were occupied and that switching players would not be possible. No problem....but all the rooms were not taken. The girl at the desk did not want to go the trouble for me.

The ZAZEN HOTELS was the nicest place that we stayed on our trip. The rooms, restaurant, and site were all beautiful. We were greeted with a welcome cocktail and the service continued to be excellent throughout. It is a very very nice place to stay.
