For a 4 star hotel there were a few rthings not upp to standard - the high speed WIFI was very poor (and you had to pay for this!) - and I ended up going to an internet cafe nearby to do even basic internet/email work. Also little things like having to pay for an electricity adapter in this standard of hotel suggests that the hotel remains confused as to what market it is really targetting. Rooms etc were a good size and in a great location - would probably prefer somewhere else if ever in Chaing Mai - though still a worth considering.

Sawadee service was very prompt and everything went smoothly.

The deluxe room was large with a good view. Everything in the room worked perfectly. The breakfast is very good, both for westerners and thai. The hotel is in the middle of town, so it is easy to get to anywhere you want. I would defintly come back.

Perfect as always

Great location and very helpful staff. The breakfast was good every morning. This is a wonderful spot to stay if you are interested in being walking distance to all the old city temples, night market, weekend market and good restaurants just around the corner.

The hotel is good value for the price and location. The rooms are not the best i have stayed at in Thailand, but nothing too terrible. The breakfasts are decent and the staff is friendly. The spa is very good and offers good value for the money. The hotel has in-house travel agents who are very helpful. The one negative is that the pool looses direct sun by noon. If you re looking for a 5-star property...keep looking, but if you want a clean, decent hotel, Amora fits the bill.

no issues

Wonderful location right on the east canal. Perfect for exploring the old town and within easy walking distance of the night and day markets and riverside. Lots of tour groups staying here so it s a bit impersonal. Pool only has sun in morning. Lobby is huge and needs plants and things to give it more colour and character. Great views over the old city from the front bedrooms but can be a bit noisy.

Faultless.

Excellent location, room was clean and generally comfortable, but bed was overly firm. Pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. Included breakfast was very good with fine selection and fresh quality. In-house restaurant meals a bit on pricey side, so we sampled neighborhood restaurants instead. In-room safes were available, but at extra charge. I feel this should have been an included feature.

Everything went smoothly and there were no surprises upon check-in. I highly recommend this service.

Nice rooms with quite good location. About 15 minutes walking distance to Night Bazaar area. We got 4 nights in the price of 3 nights, which was nice because it was peak season. Breakfast buffet was quite nice.

I was left waiting 1 hour at the airport as the complimentary transit to the hotel was not there and they had the wrong arrival time for my flight. The flight number was given on the booking form but no-one had bothered to check the updated arrival time. I was then checked into a room with a connecting door to the next room. During my 5 nights 3 of them were disturbed by a screaming baby (every 2 hours on the last night). The beds were Thai style hard mattresses, not what one expects in a western-style hotel. The breakfast was dreary...overcooked local food, badly cooked werstern food. I complained to the restaurant mamager and asked him to ask the hotel manager to contact me. He didn t. The hotel touts itself as The Newest Hotel in Chiang Mai . It is in fact the old Rydges Hotel, and the new owners have not even bothered to change or clean the stained carpets in the corridors or repaint/refurbish the public areas. A very poor 2 star experience and I will not be staying there again.Strongly NOT recommended.

Fine, except there was no field for arrival time so the hotel didn t know what time my flight arrived.

Amora Tapae Hotel, Chiangmai, near Night Bazaar
The Amora was a great choice mainly because it was extremely good value for money (we got the stay 3 nights pay 2 deal with free airport pick up and drop off) and the location as others have mentioned is very convenient. Most of the sites in Chiang Mai are a walking distance away, or a short 40Baht Tuk-Tuk ride. There are also several good restaurants and cafes nearby. The few downsides were - (a) the rooms are old and a bit stuffy, though acceptable, (b)the internet rates are 600Baht/day which is what big Bangkok hotels charge, even though there are several internet cafes virtually next door that are 30B/hr, and (c) the spa in the hotel is also unreasonably expensive, given that there are massage parlours and spas all around town that are less than half the price. Other than that our stay in Chiang Mai was great and we enjoyed the day elephant safari-Long Neck Tribe tour. Our only sour moment was at a local restaurant - Il Laterna di Genova - where we met an extremely rude (rare for Thais!) waitress/owner. Please don t go there if you have children as she virtually shouted at our 1 year old baby for dropping the fork and spoon on the floor!!

I booked through Sawadee.com based on the reviews of others and have to say their reputation is well deserved. The booking was very easy and we got our confirmations the next day. The payment process was also easy, and I think that Web Sawadee gets better deals than a lot of the other websites for hotels in Chiang Mai (e.g. our stay 2 pay 3 nights offer was only on this website).

Very good staff, friendly and helpful. When we got there our safe didn t work so they upgraded our room automatically. Our room was well maintained by staff, clean and had a comfortable bed though the pillows were far too big, a trend we found right throughout Thailand resorts. Breakfast is very good here. The pool is good but the chlorine was too strong. We could only swim for a short period before eyes began to burn. The hotel location is perfect, close to Loh Kroh road where there are many places to eat and the night market. If you exit the resort and turn right there is a great little plaza with a pizza place and an American rib place, both are quite delicious.

The stay was pleasant for our family and rooms were clean and satisfactory. Breakfast spread was mediocre but platable. Front desk assistance was good and helpful with information on local food and shopping. Lasting impression is the smiles and hospitality of the staff. Good location to Warorot local market. Great stuff would go back there again or recommend it to families as its quiet and reasonably good access to every place (approx. 5 - 10 mins) on tuk-tuk .

Execellent service and response time. Would remember you guys always for making booking a breeze. Cheers!

Nice hotel. Close to everything and about a 10 min walk to night bazaar We had the superior room, which was clean and enough room for 2 people. We were topped up with bottled water everyday and the tour desk downstairs was very helpful with our day trip. The buffet breakfasts are great too. Return hotel transfer was on time and waiting for us at the airport on our arrival. Pool is good for a cool down swim after a day out. Would recommend this hotel when staying in Chiang Mai.

Nice and comfortable with a convenient location. Very helpful and friendly staff, especially the security guard outside, the bell hops and front desk. The buffet breakfast could have been more varied, but nothing much to complain about.

Booking with sawadee.com was excellent, easy and convenient. Will definitely use it again when I travel to Thailand.

Amora Tapae Hotel, Chiangmai, near Night Bazaar
Nice hotel, rooms clean, a little older now but nothing major wrong with the room. Location is a bit inconvenient for the Songkram festival as the street is impassable most of the day because of all of the people in the street. Hotel was unable to provide a car most days of Songkram because they said there was too much traffic to get into and out of the hotel. We where able to find a car (not from the desk(s) in the lobby) that took care of our needs and at a better price than the hotel wanted to charge. Restaurant is so-so and is on the expensive side if you do not do the buffet. Stay away from the spa as the price is very-very high ($4500B for a foot massage). You can get a foot massage for $200B at many places in the city. The walls are a little thin between the bathrooms and you can hear the people next door, easily. Overall would stay again (maybe not for Songkram) but it is not anything special. Location is good to see the old city as the hotel is just outside the old city on the street facing the moat around the old city.

Great as has been the case each time I use Sawadee.

Very nice hotel. Much more central than we thought wich was good. Breakfast is very good and the touristdesks at the hotel helped us with several nice days with elefantriding, visit to Golden Triangel and others. You can easyly walk round the central parts of Chiang Mai with all the tempels and Amora is a good startingpoint.

We have used sawwadee.com this year and even in 2004 and it worked perfect.

Rooms were basic but clean - an excellent value. Great location to get around the city - about a 10 minute walk to the Night Bazaar and right outside a gate into the Old City. Free breakfast buffet was good and most appreciated. Tour desk was extremely helpful and offered a wide array of packages. Front desk staff wasn t as friendly as we had hoped, though.

Easy and smooth. Would definitely use it again.

Basically, it is a good hotel which is near Tapae gate. When booking tour with agents on the street, you may bargain, and B700 or below is a very very good bargain for a one-day tour, whereas B750 to B800 is a normal bargain price for such. There is a internet shop called Appointment operated by a German near Phromping Tower, provides good services.

Excellent

Rydges Tapae Chiangmai Hotel, near Night Bazaar
There are excellent hotels in Chiang Mai, probably you can find better and more expensive ones, but the Rydges happened to be an excellent decision. Very good value for money. Excellent location close to the city walls, the night bazar, and the Sunday night market. The decoration and rooms were not supreme, but they were very good. The breakfast buffet is excellent. I would repeat. No doubt about it. I ll rate it 8 over 10 (value for money).

Rydges Tapae Chiangmai Hotel, near Night Bazaar
A clean and comfortable hotel. We stayed at the delux Mountain view room. Very convinient to the Night Bazaar only 15 minutes walk. But a better market is the Sunday market just across the road from the hotel in the old city.Breakfast was adequate vis-as-vis the price we paid. Staff very friendly except on the last day when we checked out, the front desk staff was a bit abrupt (Khun Voon)and sort of spoiled the end of a lovely holiday in Changmai.I would suggest the hotel pay particular attention to the mannerism of their front desk staff as they are the guest first and last contacts.A smile and friendly way to deal with guest will create a very good impression.

Excellent. No complaint. Very efficient and easy to deal with. Keep it up.

Rydges Tapae Chiangmai Hotel, near Night Bazaar
Great location, just outside Tae Pae Gate. Breakfast selection excellent and very satisfying. Everywhere is within walking distance. Rooms are clean, but very worn and in need of updating. Walls are paper thin - you can hear everything going on in the corridor, conversations from your neighbours and every toilet flush or shower taken at all hours of the day or night. 100BHT charge per day for the room safe. No bar and no pool staff Pool area is under shade for most of the day, so don t expect to do any sunbathing! But Chiang Mai is so beautiful with lots of things to see, save the laziness for the island resorts! We booked a few things with the hotel tour desk, but we advise against doing so, as everything can be booked elsewhere for much, much cheaper. Overall, hotel was OK for what we needed, but there are better hotels in Chiang Mai for cheaper.

Fast and efficient. Will definitely use sawadee.com next time!

Happy with our stay at Rydges. The room was modest and clean, but the bed was hard and not too comfortable. It was very near Tha-pae gate, which is great on a Sunday as there is a walking market there. Typical buffet breakfast spread, which translates to mass produced dried out food. Service was great, with very helpful and polite staff.

Booking service was easy and problem-free. Excellent. Will use again.

This is clean and modern hotel, with good location juts across the moat of old city. Staff is friendly and professionals, but room looks a bit empty and basic although all principial amenties are availble. Breakfast is vast but not very delicious. In sum no ambience of Chiang May but it s very good value for money and if you plan to spend most time going around and not in hotel, it s OK to stay

The Rydges did not disappoint. The rooms were modest yet clean and the service was very good, although the beds were quite hard and took some getting used to. The breakfast had nice variety and kept us satisfied for 6 days without looking for a new venue. You can walk pretty much everywhere from the Hotel (if you like to walk) and there are always a few Tuk Tuks nearby for those who d rather by driven. The night market is about a 10 min walk. We would definitely recommend Rydges for it’s service, cleanliness and location.

Everything went as planned with the ride from the airport and check-in. Excellent!

Rydges Tapae Chiangmai Hotel, near Night Bazaar
Overall, this was absolutely the best hotel I ve ever stayed at for the incredible price of only 1,000 baht per night based on a 3-night stay, including a great breakfast buffet and round-trip airport transfers. I wish I could find a hotel of equivalent quality for this price in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya. Pro: Excellent location directly adjacent to the Old City. Great room with plenty of hot water (unlike many Thai hotels). One of the best breakfast buffets I ve ever found; certainly the best for the price. Con: There s a charge of slightly over 100 baht a day if you use the in-room safe. There s no English language news station among the TV channels. The hotel rules state that in case of fire you re supposed to fill the sink and bathtub with water and fight the fire (I d be too busy exiting the building).

Booking service was flawless.

We are very content with our stay at Rydges. The standard and cleanness as well as the breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations. Friendly service personel as in most places in Thailand. We were lucky to to be able to use the promotion to stay three nights for the cost of two. The location is perfect directly by the canal just outside the gate to the inner city where the Sunday market takes place and only 10 minutes walk to the night market and the river. Priceworthy!

We stayed at this hotel for 7 days at the end of Sept 2004. Best features of the hotel were the location and courteous staff. There s nothing really Thai in feeling about the hotel, however. It s an Australian hotel group that appears to have taken it s standard 3-star business model and applied it to Chiang Mai. The outcome is a clean but rather personality-less hotel in a country and city so rich in culture and beauty. Overall, it gave us a reasonable and clean place for a reasonable price, but I wouldn t describe it as a highlight of our trip up north !
